Maximizing Conservation Funding for Local Governments

October 23, 2024

In this webinar, we explored strategies to help local governments—both urban and rural—build effective land conservation programs by leveraging state and federal funding. Speakers Pegeen Hanrahan, P.E. (Trust for Public Land), Tom Kay, J.D. (Alachua Conservation Trust), Maria Nardi (Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces), and Will Abberger (Trust for Public Land) shared their expertise on securing voter-supported conservation funding, establishing successful public-private partnerships, and navigating various conservation finance programs. The webinar provided key insights into the 2024 ballot initiatives on land conservation in several Florida counties, offering practical guidance for passing successful voter-supported funding measures. Whether representing a city or county, urban or rural, participants gained actionable steps to develop conservation programs that safeguard environmental resources while addressing community needs. Attendees also learned how to support both large-scale natural land conservation and urban park initiatives, ensuring that communities across Florida have access to the tools and resources needed for successful conservation efforts.
