Supporting the Citizens of Seminole County

What makes Seminole County a special place to live, work and play? Access to wide open natural spaces? Historic downtowns and walkable communities?

On September 22, 2021, smart growth organization 1000 Friends of Florida and the St. Johns Riverkeeper partnered for Seminole 2070, a virtual event, discussing future growth and development trends in Seminole County, factors affecting water quality in the St. Johns River Middle Basin, and policy recommendations to protect and promote the region’s vibrant communities.

Seminole 2070 included presentations by 1000 Friends President, Paul Owens, who shared findings from the Florida 2070 and  Water 2070 reports extrapolated for Seminole County, by the St. Johns Riverkeeper, Lisa Rinaman, and Middle Basin Coordinator, Gabbie Milch, who presented on the state of the St. Johns River Middle Basin and ways to be more River Friendly at home and in our community. 1000 Friends’ Policy & Planning Director, Jane West, concluded by drawing on registrants’ survey results on quality-of-life indicators, and provided policy recommendations and next steps for good growth management in Seminole County.

Using moderate population growth projections calculated in Florida 2070, Seminole will need to be able to accommodate nearly a quarter of a million additional residents by 2070. Stay tuned and watch this space. 1000 Friends and the St. Johns Riverkeeper continue to work together and encourage you to contact us about opportunities to support Seminole County citizens in promoting smart growth measures.
